Av: Morgan Svensson Handledare: Erik Falk

Abstract:

This kind of essay will certainly revolve around the critical reception of Frederick Conrad's Cardiovascular of Night. The focus will probably be on three primary options: firstly, the early critical reception and how the novella was received because it was at first published in 1902, second of all, Chinua's popular critique in 1977 when he called Conrad a racist and condemned both the writer and the novella, and finally, Said's protection and contextualization of Conrad's novella in 1992. The essay will certainly explore how the critics had been influenced and from what standpoints they have entered into the debate upon Conrad and possess how the dialogue has changed over time. Furthermore, it can show that the early reactions ignore the ‘race' aspect since ‘race-thinking' was seen as a thing natural. It will also explain how come Achebe may well feel therefore strongly against Conrad. He can after all fighting for a good African personality after the groupe gained their particular independence. Explained defends and contextualizes Conrad as a monster of his time. Finally, the dissertation will talk about and distinction the critics, concluding that each critique is extremely influenced by the time-period in which it was drafted.
