The Myth of the Culture of Poverty
" The parable of the Culture of Poverty”
While examining the article, " The Myth with the Culture of Poverty, ” written by Paul Gorski, I tried to bring up it back to Adelaide High School. Although I possess only stopped at the school when, the article offered me ideas of what to look for in a school where poverty is sadly not uncommon. I really believe the myth from the culture of poverty is extremely true. There are plenty of people, who also do believe that children, who also are elevated in ghettos where physical violence, gangs, and drug abuse is common, shouldn't be provided a nice school, highly qualified educators, and to be able to get a good education. I consider people experience this way since they think that the children are accustomed to lower income, that the kids themselves no longer believe they will ever be able to " obtain out. ” While this might be true for the select few, I guess that most learners raised in poverty are crying to " get out. ”
I wasn't all that surprised when I saw some of the facts written in the document. I personally hardly ever believed that every poor people were lazy, medication users in gangs. I feel that many individuals that live in lower income, were usual, middle class. Somewhere that they came across crisis or challenges and were unfortunately not able to pull themselves out of it. I agree with Mister. Gorski that most people ought to educate themselves about class and lower income, reject the deficit theory and never assume that all people have the technology including computers, and Internet. Nevertheless , teachers specifically, should be sure that class programs is trained under the impression that not everyone has the same assets. If we all understood each other, there more than likely be such negative stereotypes and these myths would never become facts.
